Safeguarding at Our School

At Morecambe Bay, safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to creating a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment where all pupils can learn, grow, and thrive. Ensuring the welfare of every child is a shared responsibility, and we take this duty extremely seriously.

Our Commitment

We believe that every child has the right to feel safe, valued, and supported. Our safeguarding practice aims to:

  • Protect children from harm, abuse, and neglect

  • Promote the physical and emotional wellbeing of all pupils

  • Foster an environment where children feel confident to speak up and seek help

  • Work proactively with families, carers, and external agencies to support pupils’ safety and development

Safeguarding is integrated into our school culture, curriculum, and daily practice. All members of staff, volunteers, and governors receive regular training to ensure they understand their responsibilities and can respond swiftly and appropriately to any concerns.

Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs)

Our school has trained Designated Safeguarding Leads who oversee and coordinate safeguarding across the school. They are the first point of contact for any concerns about a child’s safety or wellbeing.

Mrs Quinney - Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead

Policies and Procedures

We follow statutory guidance from government and local authorities, and adhere to LCC safeguarding protocols. Our safeguarding policy outlines clear procedures for:

  • Reporting concerns

  • Managing disclosures

  • Responding to allegations

  • Online safety

  • Attendance monitoring

  • Supporting vulnerable children

All policies are reviewed annually and updated to reflect changes in legislation and best practice.

A Safe, Supportive Environment

Safeguarding is not only about responding to concerns — it’s also about prevention. We aim to provide a safe school environment through:

  • A broad curriculum that teaches children about healthy relationships, personal safety, digital citizenship, and resilience

  • Robust recruitment and vetting procedures

  • Secure premises and risk assessments

  • Strong pastoral care and wellbeing support

We want every pupil to feel confident that they have trusted adults in school they can talk to about anything that worries them.

Working in Partnership

Effective safeguarding relies on close collaboration with parents, carers, and external agencies. We value open communication and encourage families to contact us whenever they have concerns or need support. Together, we can ensure that all children remain safe, happy, and ready to learn.
