Curriculum Vision
Our vision is to construct a curriculum that is ambitious, broad and balanced, informed by the best available evidence and designed to give all learners the knowledge they need to achieve and thrive in later life. Planning is sequenced to enable pupils to access it and gain knowledge and skills incrementally to reach its stated aims.
We establish strong foundations in communication and language, reading, writing and mathematics so that pupils can access the rest of the curriculum and gain later success, including academic achievement and good health and well-being.
Teachers have expert knowledge of the national curriculum, the early years foundation stage (EYFS) and the subjects they teach.
The curriculum is implemented in line with leaders' intentions and teachers teach the subject curriculum effectively, focusing on the most important knowledge or concepts, presenting information clearly, checking pupils’ understanding systematically and adapting their teaching appropriately. Assessment is used effectively to inform teaching and learning, and to help pupils embed key concepts, use knowledge fluently and develop their understanding
Curriculum Overview
Our Curriculum is designed with high expectations, ambition for all our pupils, engaging, relevant and with a focus on our local area where relevant. For most subjects, we have a 2-year rolling program which meets the needs of our mixed age classes. Curriculum design is an ongoing process informed by internal and external data and factors.
Curriculum planning ensures incremental development of skills and knowledge with English, reading and Maths establishing the foundations and building on prior learning. English units form the basis of the curriculum map and where applicable, foundations subjects are planned to create topics. Where this is not possible, threads and links within and across subjects are explored. Subject leaders are heavily involved with the curriculum mapping alongside leaders.
Alongside the National Curriculum we prioritise children becoming life long learners by embedding a learning culture and children learning to learn.
Subjects are delivered using a wide range of Teaching and learning strategies which are all underpinned by high quality teaching.
From the long term plan, medium term plans lead into weekly planning ensuring progression and clarity.
